DEPTH OF FIELD started with a Logic file jokingly labeled “Jewgaze,” but emerges as the newest collaboration from Gil Israel (Gilah) and Sam Bromer (Golf Lexapro). Sensing a glimmer of something just out of focus in this initial fragment, the duo chipped away dutifully with their oversized pedalboards, drawing inspiration from the abrasive, yet danceable early ‘00s collaborations between Kevin Shields and Primal Scream, the unimpeachable brilliance of the H-Verb plugin, and the reverb-soaked sound collages they had worked on together before the world shut down.

DEPTH OF FIELD’s true potential came sharply into relief when another friend, Sarah Coffey (Stolen Jars) joined the fray, elevating Gil and Sam’s 808 Gaze with harmonies that would make Bilinda Butcher blush. In a moment of serendipity Sam unearthed a vocal take from Sarah and Sam’s first recording together in 2016 for repurposing on DOF’s second track, “I Can’t See (I Won’t See),” a hypnotizing palimpsest which launches ICBM-like from a cornfield in (REDACTED).

In March 2024, Gil Israel (Gilah) and Sam Bromer (Golf Lexapro) will release their new collaboration DEPTH OF FIELD to the world, after years of anxious anticipation from friends and lovers across the void. Enjoy responsibly.
